Plant parasitic nematodes invading a tomato root

Currently, we are funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop new approaches to plant parasite control in sub-saharan Africa. We are also funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the NI Department for Education.

Broadly, we aim to understand the neuronal and molecular basis of behaviour in parasites, particularly the host-finding process, in order to exploit that system and prevent first contact between parasite and host. A notable twist on that theme is our work on entomopathogenic nematodes (which kill insects). In this context we are aiming to understand behaviour in order to develop improved strains for biological control of pest insects.

This page will be updated with news & views coming hot from the lab.
